ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Develop plans, budgets, forecasts and financial results to guide Houston operations decisions by forecasting requirements; providing budgets; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; early identification of opportunities or unfavorable trends; initiating corrective actions; developing and providing background information.
2. Responsible for development of executive presentation packages, preparation of business unit MD&A and other communications to division, segment, and corporate management.
3. Financial analysis for Houston operations and business development; includes sales, cost, margin, and SG&A analysis for several product lines.
4. Drive Business Process Improvements related to finance processes and financial systems and cost reductions.
5. Leadership responsibility for managing the Houston finance team. The team includes remotely located Shared Services organization that performs AR, AP and GL functions, as well as local employees who perform cost accounting, financial analysis and reporting, and compliance functions. Includes staff and department goal setting, periodic performance reviews, and regular staff communication and development.
6. Direct the Sarbanes Oxley compliance efforts for the business unit including maintaining proper internal control documentation, monitoring of control design and effectiveness, preparation, maintenance and review of self-assessment documentation.
7. Ensure US GAAP and Policy compliance, changes to GAAP, new Policies, corporate changes, etc.
8. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures in an effort to protect company assets and minimize risk.
9. Review of technical accounting issues and working with Houston operations to prepare proper documentation and communications with corporate and internal and external auditors including formal document control for reviews and investigations.
10. Creates and maintains a productive work environment with appropriate communication and involvement of all team members to ensure effective operations in accordance with SPX Leadership Standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s Degree, CPA and MBA desirable
2. Minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience including demonstrated leadership experience
3. Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and solve complex operational, accounting, and financial issues.
4. Take charge individual that is accustomed to working in a fast paced, matrix environment satisfying multiple customers that can also partner with the business unit leaders to improve results.
5. Effective communicator, both verbally and written. Active listener. Strong Presentation skills

Primary role in the design and development of a fully integrated MS Access® Database System to perform claims administration, disbursement and accounting processes related to class action and other mass tort litigations (50%)
Maintain and improve existing database systems written in MS Visual FoxPro® ? primarily consisting of various ad hoc program, report and form development or enhancement (20%)
Assist in the documentation of all departmental processes (10%)
Various ad hoc client data research and analysis tasks (10%)
Implementation and enhancement of use of firm wide software solution within the class action department, including time and billing, document management, email, and others systems (10%)

Requirements
Min. 2 years prior programming experience with MS Access® and MS Visual Basic®
Ability to document processes, and design improved processes and/or systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to completion
Ability to travel when required (typically <5 weeks a year, for 2-4 projects)

Other Preferences
Prior MS Visual FoxPro® experience not required, but a definite plus
Prior QuickBooks® accounting system not required, but a plus

Work closely with power supply team on ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM settlements.
Coordinate with IT and current/new market business analysts to streamline and standardize existing accounting reports and processes.
Responsible for all aspects of gross margin month end close for power markets including booking revenue, COGS, accruals, and generating P&L.
Analyze, troubleshoot, and perform reconciliations with new market implementation team to verify and modify integrity and accuracy of accounting data from outsourced and internal customer information systems.

· Participates in the ERM process by providing data/reports upon request.
· Prepares procedures, manuals and guides. Issues instructions and communications to the organization regarding insurance and risk issues.
· With the approval of senior management, directs the selection of insurance brokers and carriers. Negotiates contracts, agreements, and claims with insurance carriers
· Directs national insurance programs including, but not limited to, insurance for business overhead, directors & officers liability, fiduciaries, Institutional Review Board, property and general liability, employment practices liability, workers compensation, key-man life and builders risk.
· Directs the development of a national program for loss prevention and training.
· Directs the management of the Businesses Continuity Management program.
· Notifies and works with insurance carriers on all claims from the point of initial filing to resolution.
· Maintains close communication with carriers and General Counsel.
· Provides all information required in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations while minimizing potential risk to the organization.
· Maintains knowledge of insurance cycles, trends and risk management issues by attending courses, classes and conferences and up-holds current designations;
· Works with Safety Manager to review sentinel event reports.
