Director of Risk Management

SCOPE :
Directs risk management, loss prevention/safety, claims and insurance programs for the company and its subsidiary groups.
Provides Risk Management Consulting role to affiliated physician practices in so far as much as the affiliated practices have insurance programs through the company.
Secures and develops new policies, maintains and updates existing company insurance programs with the VP of Risk Management in order to provide the most favorable coverage, cost, terms, and claims settlements for all types of insurance other than employee benefits.
Administers self-insurance plans and coordinates with contracted administrative services.
Provides expertise to management on issues related to insurance and risk liabilities.
Develops short-term strategies and goals for growth; implements short and long term plans. Assesses the impact of alternatives and recommends business solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Works directly with VP of Risk Management on RRG and Captive programs providing data for underwriting, policy provision and loss reviews.
· Works with brokers and third party administrators and reviews services periodically to ensure service agreements are being met and claims are handled appropriately;
· Develops, implements, and monitors compliance with the organizations risk management policies and procedures.
· Participates in the ERM process by providing data/reports upon request.
· Prepares procedures, manuals and guides. Issues instructions and communications to the organization regarding insurance and risk issues.
· With the approval of senior management, directs the selection of insurance brokers and carriers. Negotiates contracts, agreements, and claims with insurance carriers
· Directs national insurance programs including, but not limited to, insurance for business overhead, directors & officers liability, fiduciaries, Institutional Review Board, property and general liability, employment practices liability, workers compensation, key-man life and builders risk.
· Directs the development of a national program for loss prevention and training.
· Directs the management of the Businesses Continuity Management program.
· Notifies and works with insurance carriers on all claims from the point of initial filing to resolution.
· Maintains close communication with carriers and General Counsel.
· Provides all information required in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations while minimizing potential risk to the organization.
· Maintains knowledge of insurance cycles, trends and risk management issues by attending courses, classes and conferences and up-holds current designations;
· Works with Safety Manager to review sentinel event reports.
· Coaches and develops staff.
· Responsible for interviewing, recommending hires, assessing performance, recommending salary changes, and progressive discipline. Enforces adherence to USON policies.
