TAX ACCOUNTANT

In fulfilling the Firm's mission, the Tax Staff Accountant is the team member who is responsible for the preparation of stand-alone business tax returns, financial statement related tax returns, individual tax returns and tax research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
CLIENT SERVICE
§ Works on various tax preparation projects under direct supervision of a superior (depending on the tax return, the supervisor could be a Senior Accountant, Supervisor, Manager or Partner).
§ Prepares stand-alone workpapers following the Firm policies and procedures.
§ Prepares typical business and personal income tax returns.
§ Brings unusual/significant accounting and tax related questions to the supervisor.
§ Performs any other work assigned by a superior.
§ Becomes familiar with the Firm's policies, procedures, manuals, forms and relevant software.
Specific areas of responsibilities include:
• Prepares tax returns (business and personal) as assigned by supervisors.
• Prepares working trial balance, adjusting journal entries and tax accruals for stand-alone tax returns.
• May maintain property and equipment records, and calculate depreciation and amortization.
• Prepares and reconciles account schedules as required.
• Completes tax returns for some financial statement related returns.
• Performs light research projects in the area of taxation, including payroll and sales tax.
• Reviews 1040 input of interns during tax season.
• Prepare more complicated business tax returns including consolidated and multi-state.
• Tax compliance, research and planning for clients
• Strategic tax planning and forecasting

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
§ May be responsible for supervising and training less experienced Staff Accountants, Paraprofessionals (both Tax and A&A), and Interns.
§ Act as a mentor to entry level Staff Accountants and Interns.
§ Help with the training and development of tax interns during tax season.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
EDUCATION
Masters’s/Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
EXPERIENCE Typically, college graduate to 2 years of experience
SKILLS & LICENSES Actively pursuing CPA certification, by sitting for all scheduled exams
Proficient in use of computers and basic software applications
Above average written and verbal communication skills
Successful problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to perform in highly interruptive conditions
Project management ability
Ability to perform under time-pressures and meet deadlines

KNOWLEDGE & CHARACTERISTICS Professional behavior and appearance
Strong work ethic, honest and ethical
Proactive, resourceful and customer oriented
WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to sit and use computers for extended periods of time
Ability to travel by air and car
Ability to carry and transport heavy bags, computers, etc.
Ability to provide own transportation for traveling to client assignments and for personal development programs
Overtime work required periodically throughout year. Heavy overtime work required February 1 through April 15
