Tax Accountant

Our client company has a long term growth plans for this financial services and is seeking only the most talented and driven professional to join their team.
• Strong accounting and analytical skills.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting for partnerships, S- Corps and High Net Worth individuals.
Prefer Master’s degree in accounting or tax plus 1-2 years’ experience.
Bachelor’s degree candidates will be considered with sufficient experience.
Prepare annual tax work papers to be sent to outside accounting firms, for various federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships and S- Corporations.
Prepare Journal entries related to forms K-1 and other tax entries.
Research and prepare work papers for book to tax differences.
Assist in research and preparation of correspondence to respond to various Federal and State tax notices.
Assist in preparation of annual Texas Franchise return.
Reconciliation of Forms K-1 to partners’ capital balances per books (general ledger accounting).
Review of prepared 1099 forms for vendors and assist in filing with the IRS.
Prepare estimated federal and state income tax payments for individuals, Partnerships, S- Corporations.
Prepare/Review other tax filings: Annual reports.
Assist in federal and state audits.
Maintain tax calendar, spreadsheets used for K-1 tracking and distribution and tax work papers sent to outside accounting firms
Research projects and other tax projects as they arise.
Maintain required level of technical knowledge.
Keep abreast of current developments in the tax area
Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Must be Self-Directed, Detail oriented & ability to multi-task.
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Must have strong computer skills, proficient in Tax software, Excel, Word.

Job Description-Overview
As a Manager on our Tax Services Team, you will apply your industry knowledge and experience as you work on clients of the Firm to advise them of tax implications of their business objectives, recommend alternate courses of action, as well as identify different methods of complying with tax regulations. You may be responsible for teaching, instructing and reviewing the work of those with less experience. As a Manager, you will be responsible for marketing, networking and business development within your area of experience and specialization. You may provide written tax advice to clients. Other typical responsibilities will include applying your knowledge to understand potential tax issues, evaluate and select alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, recognize and communicate potential risks, identify potential changes in the tax policy and handle routine questions from federal or state agencies. You may be the main client contact for complex questions and information.
External Job Description - Essential Duties/Functions
Tax Compliance
Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and our Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").
· Conducts top level review of T/R and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate
· Communicates with client and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews
· Plans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed to include:
- Budgeting and staffing
- Monitoring engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior
- Timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client
- Timely collection of A/R
· Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project
· Provides advice to clients in a timely manner;
Research
Identifies when research is needed; clearly and concisely frames issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely reports the analysis.
· Applies most Firm and professional standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns.
· Involve firm specialists, as appropriate
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
Correctly and proactively applies Firm policies, standards, and our Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
· Applies, correctly and proactively, ASC 740-10, and Firm policies, standards, and our TQM regarding them
· Effectively explains and discusses components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to the client as well as other complexities surrounding ASC 740-10
· Proactively communicates with Assurance counterparts to timely plan tax accrual reviews, including budget, scope and delivery dates
· Effectively utilizes and manages STS, as needed
Tax Consulting
Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes.
· Considers the applicability of CTS and STS consulting specialties for each client;
· Develops and implements a work plan to include/organize the STS assistance on ongoing projects from client
· Serves as a technical resource
· Ensures client service teams comply with Firm policy; regarding Written Tax Advice ("WTA"),
· Provides effective assistance with exam support;
· Frames projects and issues for effective delegation to seniors and associates.
Tax Specialization
Develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation, e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits.
· May be required to organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in area of specialization, involving Firm specialists.
Strategy Development
Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
· Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action
· Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methods
Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Supervision of associates and senior associates on all projects
· Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review comments
· Efficiently and effectively trains Associates and Seniors how to use all current software tools
· Act as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates
· Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates
· Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates

· Possess proven solid verbal and written communication skills
· Possess excellent people development and delegation skills, including training/instruction
· Possess executive presence - needs to be able to be primary contact for the client, prepare and present presentations to clients and potential clients

This position will be hired with a fast-track approach to advance to Partner within 1-3 years. This position will ultimately replace an existing retiring Partner in a scheduled timeframe. The goal of the firm is to bring on additional partners and ultimately transition the firm to other partners within the firm.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with entrepreneurial desires and 10 plus years of tax experience working with small to medium sized clients (under $20M). The successful candidate will have access to mentoring and training to become a full equity Partner of the firm, with a chance to manage and grow an already successful firm to the next level.
Minimum Qualifications
• 4 year degree, CPA certified (required).
• 10 years experience with taxation services in public accounting.
• 10 years tax preparation and review of corporate, partnership, individual, not for profit, estate and trust a plus but not required.
• 5 – 10 years direct employee/staff management experience. The Tax Partner Candidate will be responsible for staff administration – internal scheduling and coordination and overseeing the operations of the office. There are currently 10 direct reports including: head administrator, 4 staff accountants and 5 tax managers.
• Software knowledge: QuickBooks, knowledge of CCH programs, particularly Profx Tax is a plus. Microsoft Office – PC Based, BNA Tax Projection, RIA Research.
• Client relationship management.
• Solid business acumen and good common sense skills in making day to day decisions.
• Experience with small to medium sized, private entrepreneurial clients.
• Experience in oil & gas, real estate, professional services (small to medium under $20M in revenues) a plus.
• Proven ability and desire to mentor others.
