Position Title: Controller 9/18/08
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Accounting and 4-6 years relevant experience. The incumbent will possess knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles. Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills required and the ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast paced environment with limited support staff. Experience in public accounting and advanced degree or CPA certification is highly valued.
Scope: All accounting for Real Estate, Landfill, and Rail operations of the company and its affiliates, including operations where company is the general partner as well as accounting for its interests where it is limited partner.
Company currently owns 7 properties it leases commercially, has wholly-owned investments in raw land held for development and/or resale, is limited partner and co-general partner in two partnerships holding land for future development and sale, is general partner for a 740 car capacity rail yard in La Porte Texas, and is pursuing development of a second, wholly-owned rail yard in Baytown. The company is also a limited partner in a Type IV landfill operation in the Pearland area.
Several of these entities have debt. Numerous accruals and journals are required monthly. Accounts payable volume is approximately 30 payments per month, combined. One entity has 6 employees, and payroll is outsourced to a PEO.
Tasks: Monthly financial statements for all assigned entities (all are currently maintained in QuickBooks)
Managing the accumulation and processing of all accounting data for an accurate accounting
Ø Includes indirect supervision of affiliate personnel assisting with the processing of account payable documents (coding, data entry, check processing)
Ø Includes accurate and timely invoicing/receipt and posting of tenant rents and rebilling of costs paid on behalf of tenants pursuant to lease agreements. Indirectly supervise other affiliate staff assisting with such duties.
Ø Includes indirect supervise of other staff with bank account and intercompany account reconciliations and maintenance of check registers.
Ø Submit or verify submission of monthly rail yard payroll to PEO
Establish companies and chart of accounts for newly formed entities, including partnerships, corporations, and LLCs.
Analyze partnership agreements, leases and similar documents to determine tax, reporting or accounting responsibilities
Coordinate filing of personal property tax renditions annually, and ensure prompt payment of same. Review assessed values with management and outside consultant to determine resolution of disputes and filing of protests.
Monitor and/or indirectly supervise accrual and payment of real property taxes for all entities
Coordinate / develop / implement efficient processes involving personnel for capture, handling and processing of all accounting data.
Maintain calendar for accounting close, partner reporting, year-end close, and to meet debt compliance obligations
Recognize and handle transactions involving multiple entities, develop documents (e.g. invoices) and record same.
Maintain schedule of escrowed funds and monitor status of same
Manage auditors engaged for current annual compilation requirements for rail business, and for other audit requirements that may come with prospective investment opportunities/partnerships

Manage the accurate reporting of the international aspects of the US Federal income tax return, including Forms 5471, 1118 and related foreign E&P calculations.

Direct the international tax compliance efforts for foreign Company affiliates through coordination with in-country tax advisors.

Job Requirements:

Job Requirements:
3-5 years accounting experience, natural gas energy industry experience preferred (Retail
or Wholesale Gas Marketing, Pipeline)
Accounting degree preferred. Finance or other business degree with a minimum of 12
hrs of accounting req.
Advanced Excel required & Access knowledge preferred
1st and 2nd tier schools preferred. GPA 3.0 or above preferred depending on university
Strong communication and organizational skills
Entegrate experience preferred
Solomon accounting experience preferred
