The position reports to the Collection Supervisor. The Collection Specialist contacts delinquent electric and gas customers (residential and commercial) by telephone to collect overdue payments, negotiates payment with customers to prevent disconnection/termination of service, resolve discrepancies and billing disputes, while minimizing company losses. Often recommends accounts for disconnect or placement with third party collection firms after all collection efforts have been exhausted. Meets or exceed performance standards in order to accomplish the objectives of the collection department.

Job Skills and Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or related experience
3 to 4 years retail collection experience
Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act
Skip tracing experience
Results oriented with strong negotiation skills
Self motivated
Display professionalism and strong customer service skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical and problem solving skills
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet
Knowledge of the utility industry and bi-lingual a plus
Non-exempt; temp to perm position
$30,000
