The Risk Management Group (RMG) our client company encourages businesses to be innovative and entrepreneurial within defined risk parameters. RMG is an independent, centralized unit responsible for assessing, quantifying and mitigating risks across. RMG comprises of eight divisions including: Credit, Market Risk, Prudential Capital and Markets, Compliance, Operational Risk, Internal Audit, Data Policy Unit and Quantitative Applications Division.
Market Risk is concerned with measuring and limiting company's exposure to adverse movements in market rates - stock prices, commodity prices, interest rates, and foreign exchange rates. Due to the diversity and complexity of the products that company trades, this is a constantly challenging responsibility, but one that is pivotal to the way of doing business.
On a daily basis, Market Risk is responsible for setting, monitoring, reporting and enforcing risk limits across all the trading areas of the Group. In addition, Market Risk approval is required on all new deals and products prior to trading. Whether it is a innovative exotic derivative structure, or the purchase of an entire trading business, Market Risk analysts work closely with the front office to ensure that the risks arising from the new venture are fully understood, and adequately constrained.
Due to the expansion of our businesses - including movement into new products and markets - we are now seeking a team leader for our North American energy-focused Market Risk team. Based in Houston, reporting to the Head of Market Risk for the Americas, this position offers an excellent opportunity to apply your leadership and technical skills in a commercial role, while gaining exposure to company Group's senior management and working in close collaboration with colleagues in the global Market Risk team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engaging continuously with the Energy Market Division's front office traders, you will ensure that any market risks arising from day-to-day trading positions are fully understood and being managed appropriately within the limit framework
- Pro-active involvement in the approval of new products, businesses and trading strategies within the energy markets sector in North America. Operating in a global environment, with colleagues in Sydney, Hong Kong and London, you will also have additional involvement in energy markets activities globally
- Vital to understanding and identifying potential risks, you will be constantly seeking to understand what is driving the financial markets and pro-actively keep abreast of market news and trends
- You will assess the appropriateness of mathematical derivative pricing models within the context of real-world market conditions
- You will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight and development of a small team of 3 to 4 analysts dedicated to the North American energy business
- As team leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely delivery of reporting risk metrics to senior management of the Group on a daily basis
- Liaising with back office and support staff to ensure that the trading systems adequately represent the risk profile of the trading books and that risk numbers are being reported in an accurate and timely manner
KEY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Minimum education: Bachelor degree in Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Economics
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to build solid relationships with internal clients and stakeholders across all levels within the business. You must be able to effectively conceptualize, anticipate and articulate emerging issues
- Proven ability to balance the need to switch between being immersed in detailed day to day activity and problem-solving versus managing higher level longer term activities and objectives
- Exposure to Commodity Markets with experience in North American energy markets a plus. The ideal candidate will have had direct involvement in trading risk decisions, gained within a dynamic international financial services organization or large energy / commodity trading business
- Sound analytical ability and judgment and the proven ability to sustain high level of performance under pressure with short deadlines
- Strong leadership capability and experience of managing and developing a small team
- Effective presentation skills including strong written communication
- Strong MS Excel and Access skills
