The Energy Markets Division (a Division of Fixed Income, Currency & Commodities) is a global business with operations across North America, Australia, Europe and Asia. The Division provides tailored risk management solutions to an international client base through over-the-counter derivatives and physical commodities. Products traded include crude and oil products, distillates, fuel oils, natural gas, electricity and coal.

An energy trading and marketing company based in Houston servicing North America's largest natural gas and electricity producers, utilities, industrial users, and other large wholesale energy sector participants. Energy specializes in providing natural gas and electricity supply, storage and transportation services, hedging solutions and structured transactions for customers.

Energy Markets Finance is responsible for the product control, finance and accounting support for the global energy division.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

As company continues to grow, the Group seeks a talented individual to join the Legal Entity Control team in Houston. Working as part of a high profile team, this position will work extensively with other members of the broader global FICC Finance team, as well as work directly with other various trading support functions.

This role will be a key participant in expanding the capabilities and responsibilities of our Energy Markets Finance team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist with the month-end close and ongoing monitoring processes for 10+ legal entities

· Assist with meeting monthly close deadlines, including balance sheet controls, expense analytics and various other internal/external reporting requirements

· Prepare journal entries, transfer dockets and other business activity summaries, ensuring clerical accuracy and appropriate support documentation

· Prepare monthly financial statement analytics and reporting packs, including performance analysis of product and market area variances, comparison and variance explanation to budget and other internal and management reporting metrics

· Assist in overall analysis of capital and funding for the global energy division

· Reconcile general ledger accounts by legal entity

· Ensure compliance with all financial policies and processes

· Assist in the continued development of finance policies and procedures

· Prepare economic vs. accounting adjustments and explanation summaries

· Prepare compliance and support documentation for internal control and review purposes

· Document job processes and procedures, including identification of process enhancements and improvements

· Participate in ongoing training initiatives within the team and the trading organization

· Assist in technical accounting research under US GAAP, IAS and AAS

· Prepare other ad-hoc reports/schedules

· Work closely with IT to ensure control environment adapts to changes in business

· Support external audit work for Energy Markets Division

· Liaise with other internal/external stakeholders as appropriate





KEY SKILL REQUIREMENTS

· Strong accounting background, with previous experience in a commodity trading environment highly beneficial

· Strong attention to detail

· Desire to follow tasks through to completion and has a high sense of urgency

· High level of energy, commitment and flexibility

· Strong client service ethic

· Ability to work and contribute as part of a team

· Ability to develop relationships with multiple stakeholders including traders, marketers, risk & IT professionals and business managers

· Knowledge of US GAAP, knowledge of IAS/IFRS is also desirable

· Can resolve issues in a practical manner

· Sets high standards for self and team

· Team player with excellent oral and written communication and influencing skills

· Comfortable tackling new concepts and ideas associated with on-going change in the business

· Ability to re-assess / re-engineer work processes

· Self Motivated and able to work independently to complete responsibilities with limited supervision

· Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines

QUALIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND

· Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA or other post-graduate degree is preferred

· CPA designation is strongly preferred, active pursuit of licensing is required

· Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience is required, Big 4 experience and/or wholesale energy industry experience is desirable

· Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the power and/or natural gas markets is desirable

· Familiarity with commodity financial instruments, such as futures, swaps and options, as well as basic valuation methodologies is desirable

· Computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel, Word or equivalents

· Peoplesoft experience is preferred, but not required
